Letter from the President
Welcome to the inauguration of our new internet home! It’s an exciting time for the Southern Nevada chapter of Sisters in Crime, as the website launch coincides with our 1st anniversary. We have had a wonderful first 12 months and are looking forward to the future.
This past year we hosted noted authors Tammy Cowden (“Cruising for Love”, “Complete Writer’s Guide to Heroes and Heroines : Sixteen Master Archetypes”), Stephen Grogan (“Vegas Die”) and Police Lieutenant/writer Randy Sutton (“True Blue: To Protect and Serve”). Our members enjoyed panel discussions on how to choose the right word and how actors work with dialogue. And our October meeting brought three local actors in to do dramatic presentations of the poetry of Poe and Shakespeare’s “MacBeth.” It truly has been an amazing year filled with surprises and great presentations.
In 2010, we are planning to have book discussions on selected titles, more book signings, author readings, panel discussions and so much more! We are really looking forward to this next year, and we hope you’ll join the fun.
So if you’re interested in joining Sisters in Crime, please visit our MEMBERSHIP page for more information. Although our meetings are free and open to the public, members receive our monthly newsletter that contains links to local book clubs and writer’s groups and other websites of interest. In addition, the newsletter presents book reviews (from old and new titles), information on upcoming speakers and tidbits for both writers and readers. To see previous newsletters, visit the local link.
The mission of Sisters in Crime is to promote the professional development and advancement of women crime writers to achieve equality in the industry. Our meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month at 3pm in the Conference Room of the Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Avenue in Las Vegas (between Windmill and Pebble, just east of Las Vegas Blvd.)
Please join us for a meeting and see for yourself: 2010 is going to be amazing! See you there!
Sincerely,
Lauren Duncan, President
